First, phở isn’t pronounced like how it’s written; instead, it’s pronounced as “f-uh,” like “Oh, f-uh!” but without the “k” (Good for impressing Vietnamese friends & family). Traditionally, there is only one type of phở, phở bò – beef phở, which originated from northern Vietnam. With the growing globalization of phở, there became variations on phở such as phở gà – chicken phở and phở chay – vegetarian phở. And finally, if you’re planning on slurping down your phở noodles, remember to leave your nice white shirt at home, as it’s easy to get caught in the splash zone of a phở broth slurp.
